“We welcome today’s announcement from the Government, which underlines the importance of rail to the West of England region.
“I am committed to getting our region moving, and making it easier for people to move around – rail is vital part of that.
“The West of England Combined Authority has already invested £6.5m to kick-start a series of major schemes aimed at getting the region moving, and securing more homes and jobs for local people. This includes improving transport routes – rail, public transport, road, walking and cycling – and investing in infrastructure to support building new homes.
We are also working with Network Rail through MetroWest to improve our suburban rail network – including more frequent services, more capacity and new stations for commuters.
We will be discussing putting a bid to Government for additional funding for MetroWest at the meeting of the West of England Combined Authority and Joint Committee next week.”
